Mount Carlyle Lodge Trip DetailsTransportation to and from the trailheadTransportation is provided to the trailhead for guided and catered trips. For self-guided trips a 4x4 shuttle service is available for an extra $200.00. Our trailhead is accessed via a de-activated forestry road. It is heavily brushed-in in places and can only be reached with 4x4 transport (approx. a 30 minute drive). If your are concerned about scratching your vehicle, we provide a shuttle service with our 7 passenger Suburban and a separate 4x4 pick-up truck for additional people and gear.Helicopter Flight ServiceSince the hike to our lodge is quite short, enjoyable and comfortable, we prefer to use this option and keep helicopter transport to a minimum due to the impact it may have on the resident wildlife. Should you feel helicopter transport is necessary for you or your group members, the cost for one flight starts at CN$ 850.00 per flight load of 800 lbs. and increases in price dependent on the total flight time necessary. The Hike to the Lodge- Distance: 5 km - Elevation Gain: 1700 feet.- Difficulty: Moderate The hike to our Lodge takes approximately 2.5 hours and leads through sub-alpine fir and larch forests close to numereous small creeks and cascading waterfalls. The trail meanders through alpine terrain and glacial moraines eventually leading to a mountain pass that offers exceptional views. From there, a short 15 minute descent brings us to the Lodge. Our MealsWe believe in a well-balanced diet and our menu consist of healthy, wholesome mountain cuisine, which is an essential part of outdoor recreation. All breakfasts, lunches, snacks and dinners are provided. If we are hiking in, you will need to carry a small amount of perishable food (approximately 15lbs.) besides your personal gear. All non-perishable foods and beverages of choice will be at the lodge. Please specify on the application form if you have any special requirements, allergies or dislikes in regards to your diet.TerrainThe hiking found at the Mount Carlyle Lodge is in alpine terrain that offers spectacular vistas of the Kokanee Range and its glaciers, the Vallhalla's, the Purcell Mountains and the Goat Range. The trails are either small roughed-in foot paths, old horse trails from the mining days or stone-marked off trail routes through boulder fields and along ridges. Easy hiking is found in Sunny Side Basin close to the lodge, Motherload Basin with its alpine lakes and tarns or Little Prospector Peak area where you can enjoy a break at Porcupine Lake.Peak trip highlights include: Ascending to the summits of Mt. Carlyle (8680 feet), Prospector Peak, Little Prospector, the Pyramids and Misty Mountain. In fall, mid September to mid October, the basins surrounding us overflow with the golden glow of alpine larches, an autumn feast for hikers, photographers, painters and alpine enthusiasts.
